Grave Matters: Shadowlawn, Lawrenceville

Today's Grave Matters column is dedicated Shadowlawn Cemetery, located on Atha Street off Jackson. Shadowlawn has a great name and is actually two cemeteries, the original lot and the more recent East Shadowlawn which has an entrance off Scenic Highway. Below are some views of old Shadowlawn.

There is a billboard on Atha with a map on one side and identifications for every grave on the other. All the information you need to navigate the cemetery is here, thoughtfully provided by Eagle Scout Benjamin Stewart, including how to find the tragic and most terrifying portion of the grounds, known as Babyland, seen in the photo below following the directory.

Today the road that passes from Old Shadowlawn to East Shadowlawn was closed off (you can see the cones in the first image below), so I drove around to the Scenic entrance. East Shadowlawn is smaller, and is home to the mortuary and a nice Veteran's memorial.

Shadowlawn is a great cemetery. It's big enough to offer plenty of exploration, features many older graves, and is at times genuinely creepy.
