Let's rename the Gwinnett Stripers the Gwinnett Joro Spiders

Sports fans, we have a proposal. Many Gwinnetians were unsatisfied with the choice of name when our beloved AAA baseball team rebranded from the Braves, and frankly, we agree. 'Stripers' just doesn't capture the essence of anything truly Gwinnetian, not to mention the mascot looks a bit more like a largemouth than a striper to us.

Most of you have probably never even seen a striper, but if you walk outside this spring, you're pretty much guaranteed to run into a joro web, and just like the human population of our beloved county, the number of joro spiders is rising exponentially. In fact, as our colleagues to the north at the Rome News-Tribune have reported, unlike most spiders, the invasive joros are equally at home in urban and rural environments, making Gwinnett an ideal breeding ground.

Therefore, we motion that Gwinnett move on from the misguided Stripers and start cheering for the Joros. Join the fight and contact Striper management today:
