The Dollar Tree A/V Club Reviews: Gross Songs by Paul Avgerinos

Here at the Daily Gwinnetian Dollar Tree A/V Club we review whatever's available at Dollar Tree. Today we stopped by the New Hope branch, which readers may recognize as the location of a possible explosion back in February and the Dollar Tree Parking Lot Fountain. For a cool $1.25 plus tax we snagged a cd titled 'Gross Songs'.

Marketed toward children ages 6 and up, this album was a real treat, and at times genuinely disturbing. My three kids and I enjoyed it immensely while cruising the Gwinnett backstreets looking for newsworthy events. Our favorite track would have to be 'My Dead Dog Rover':

The liner notes credit one Paul Avgerinos as the producer of this masterpiece, so we did a little investigating, and to our utter astonishment, Paul is an influential new age musician and the winner of not one but TWO GRAMMY AWARDS.

Perhaps not too surprisingly, his discography makes absolutely no mention of Gross Songs. The album was released in 2000, but you can see it is clearly absent.

Though more than 20 years have passed since the release of Gross Songs, Paul still runs the same studio where the album was recorded, Studio Unicorn in Redding, Connecticut.

Now we were pretty stoked to have acquired such a treasure, so we contacted Paul to see if he'd sign our CD, and he said yes! We shipped it off and got it back along with a few freebies too! If you ever read this Paul, you're a standup guy and the kids were floored. 13/10, would recommend.
