This Day in Gwinnett History: Jennifer Wilbanks Kidnaps Herself

What Gwinnetian could forget the runaway bride from Duluth, Jennifer Wilbanks, whose case of cold feet led to a full-blown media circus back in 2005. Wilbanks disappeared on an evening jog in Duluth on April 26th, only to resurface in Albuquerque on the 29th, claiming she had been kidnapped, though her story quickly fell apart as nothing more than a ruse to avoid getting married.

"If you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you." - Friedrich Nietzsche

Wilbanks wound up with a couple of years probation, 120 hours of community service, and fines, but she was able to successfully avoid the worst punishment of them all, marriage.
