Business Spotlight: Tote-A-Poke Food Store

Today we sent our intrepid DG field reporters out to downtown Buford, home of the Tote-A-Poke Food Store, conveniently located at 565 East Main Street. Any connoisseur of mom-and-pop shops would certainly have high expectations based on the outward appearance of the Tote-A-Poke, and we're here to tell you that it does not disappoint.

Inside, you'll find an amazing hodge-podge of items from sardines to motor oil to diapers and all things in between, arranged with a fun and engaging scavenger hunt vibe. There's also an entertainment section featuring video poker machines with a handy tub of Mad Dog 20/20 at arm's reach, and a boiled peanut stand by the door.

The staff were extremely pleasant and very helpful. We had a great time, eventually purchasing a large cup of boiled peanuts for a very reasonable $3.99 and a couple of lottery tickets. Despite the warning posted at the checkout counter, they didn't kick us out for wearing jorts.

The Tote-A-Poke is a classic throwback, a relic of a by-gone age before the chains took over. Highly recommended, and the boiled peanuts were delicious.
