On this day in 1968, Emory student Barbara Mackle fell victim to Gwinnett's most notorious kidnapping. Though she was ultimately found alive and quickly recovered from her ordeal, Mrs. Mackle spent three days buried underground off South Berkely Lake Road inside a ventilated coffin-like box before being located by the FBI. Seen above, the hole remaining after the box was removed for evidence. The sensational sequence of events was made into two movies (The Longest Night and 83 Hours Til Dawn) and featured on two TV series (FBI: The Untold Stories and A Crime to Remember).

Keep it classy, Gwinnett. This is not a political forum, nor is it place for intolerance or crude behavior of any sort. We are all in this together, so just enjoy the ride.
