Despite having been in Gwinnett since 2009, we here at the Daily Gwinnetian must confess that we were completely oblivious to the fact that there are not one, but two professional hockey teams pounding the ice in our fair county.
While we have been reporting on the trials and tribulations of our beloved Gladiators, we were completely ignorant of the Capitals, who make their home at the Duluth IceForum. Currently sixth in the division, the Caps have a commanding lead over the seventh place Mid Cities Junior Stars and the absolutely woeful Austin Ice Bats, who have posted an abysmal 3-33 win/loss record this year.
When we asked The Man On The Street about it, he was visibly annoyed. "How many hockey teams are y'all going to spring on me?" he asked. "First, it was the Gladiators, which I thought was a joke but was somehow real, and now this? I am not falling for it. There is no way we have two hockey teams. Fool me once, shame on me. There is no way they play a team called the Ice Bats. Or the Ice Wolves. Do better, this is lazy, you're not even trying."
When we showed him an Ice Bats hat as evidence that the league does in fact exist, he merely sighed and walked away, telling us not to interview him any more if all we wanted to do was troll him about made-up sports teams.

Keep it classy, Gwinnett. This is not a political forum, nor is it place for intolerance or crude behavior of any sort. We are all in this together, so just enjoy the ride.
